New Delhi: Dr. Ammar Abdi, Secretary of the Press Association of India, has strongly condemned the reported attacks on journalists covering the ongoing CJP protest, stating that differences with the media can never justify violence against ground reporters.
In a statement, Dr. Abdi said that public anger toward sections of the mainstream media should not be directed at journalists working on the ground. He noted that many of the reporters deployed at protest sites are ordinary professionals working on modest salaries and are simply carrying out their reporting assignments.
He further questioned the violence witnessed during the protest, saying that students’ movements should remain peaceful and should not target members of the press. Dr. Abdi also raised concerns over the identity of those allegedly involved in attacking journalists, asking who had entered the protest and turned it violent.
Appealing for restraint, Dr. Abdi urged all participants to maintain peace, respect the safety of journalists, and uphold democratic values. He concluded by stating, “Students cannot be violent.”
