Chandigarh – Haryana Police has achieved success in re-uniting 2,381 missing children with their families during the calendar year 2019. Among the traced missing children, 1,150 are boys and 1,231 are girls. Some of these children had been missing for a long period of time.
Giving this information here today, Director General of Police (DGP), Mr Manoj Yadava said that Police has been playing a significant role in tracing out missing children and uniting them with their parents. Out of the total, 1,929 missing children were traced and reunited by district police teams and the remaining 452 were reunited by the Anti Human Trafficking Units of State Crime Branch, who have also been dedicated to this noble cause.
The DGP said that prime objective of this programme was to trace and reunite missing children with families to prevent child trafficking and from persons who tried to engage them in begging and other antisocial activities. Under the drive, police visit public places like railway stations, bus stands and religious places, besides the institutions such as shelter homes to search for children who may have separated from their parents. Our trained personnel screened all the missing children and extract required information from them which helps in reuniting them with their parents.
This drive to re-unite the missing children is being conducted by the Haryana Police with the support of Women and Child Development Department, Labour Department, Child Welfare Council and Non-Government Organizations.
Enumerating the year wise figure, The DGP said that State Police have been able to reunited 2,409 missing children with their families in year 2018, 2,343 children in year 2017, 2,123 in year 2016 and 2,287 children in year 2015. In addition, a total of 9,417 child beggars and 6,926 child labourers were also rescued by the AHTUs from year 2015 to 2019.
