In Sept, Haryana Police recover 187 missing/stolen mobile phones

Chandigarh – Under a special drive, Haryana Police have traced 187 stolen/missing mobile phones across the state during September 2020 and returned them to their owners. The total worth of the recovered mobile phone was over Rs10.38 lakh.

          In the past eight months (January to August), police had also recovered 1215 mobile phones worth Rs 1.28 crore, which were reported missing or were snatched or stolen.

          Giving this information here today, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Mr Navdeep Singh Virk said that people were pleasantly surprised when they received a phone call from police about recovery of their handsets.

 He said that acting on the complaints, IT and cyber cell teams traced the location of the mobile and SIM being used with their IMEI number. The recovered 187 handsets also include costly high-end mobile phones. Most of these phones have been lost accidently by the complainants while some others were stolen as well. Using hi-end technology, the police have been working to trace missing cell phones and more such recoveries are expected in the days to come.

         These electronic gadgets were either stolen or lost in various parts of the State. At 44, the maximum phones were recovered in Hisar followed by 26 in Kaithal, 15 in Palwal, 12 each in Rohtak, Narnaul and Sirsa. 

          “For more people, cell phones are more important than their monetary value due to saved data, passwords and personal information, police have made it a priority to trace missing phones with the help of IMEI number. Our teams continue to track till it is activated. Once the handset activated, police tracked the location and recovered the device,” he added.   

          Mr Virk said that Police is constantly monitoring and taking immediate actions on such complaints as the stolen/lost electronic devices can be used to execute any kind of criminal offence. He also advised the people to quickly report loss of mobiles especially smart phones so that these electronic gadgets are not misused by anti-social elements.
