Vehicle lifters gang posing as financer busted, five held

Chandigarh – With the arrest of five persons in Karnal, Haryana Police has busted a vehicle lifters gang who had duped more than half-a-dozen people by posing themselves as employees of a finance company. Police has also recovered seven vehicles from them.

Giving this information here today, a spokesperson of Haryana Police said that during preliminary interrogation, the accused have confessed their involvement in six cases of vehicle theft. They had committed four incidents in district Karnal and two in Kuruksehtra district. The accused gang members were arrested by the crime unit following a tip-off from Meerut road, Karnal.

Those arrested were identified as Roop Chand of village Guniyana, Karnal, Sanjiv and Amit of Anjanthali in Karnal, Sandeep of Kakroi in Sonipat and Sonu of Nissing, Karnal. Police recovered five stolen bolero pick-up and two other vehicles from their possession. Their two other accomplices were also involved in these incidents of vehicle theft, who are still absconding. They will be arrested shortly.

Initial investigation revealed that accused Roopchand and Sandeep, who had worked at Tata Finance for about a year, have alongwith their aides formed the gang. They knew how the financier takes possession of the financed vehicle. Taking advantage of this information, they stopped the drivers and poses themselves as employee of finance company and told them first pay the outstanding installments then take the vehicle from the yard after showing the bank receipt. Thereafter, the accused used to escape from there by taking the vehicle. A case of attempt to murder was also registered against the accused Sonu in the district Kaithal, in which he was currently out on bail.

A case to this effect was registered and further probe into this matter is on.
