The aim of this study is to investigate the techniques and rules of the Ancient Greek Fighting Pancration (pancreas) sport. Pancration, a combination in which wrestling and boxing techniques were used in history, was also known as “Pammachion” (the person with all power). Although pancration is among the ancient sports, it has caused the birth of many modern sports. These are mixed martial arts, kickboxing, Jiu jitsu, judo, karate, kung-fu, taekwondo, aikido, tai-chi chuan unarmed Chinese fighting forms, and sports such as kendo (fencing), kyudo (archery) and ninutju of Japan origin. These sports are commonly referred to as “martial arts” or “combat sports”. Pancration includes some techniques from ancient boxing and wrestling, as mentioned earlier. In addition, different techniques similar to kicking and karate are also involved in this fight. Some athletes who make pancreas have developed their own fighting styles in combat sports. This fight includes punches in Ancient boxing and throwing and grips in wrestling. There are two versions of pancration in ancient Greek culture: Ano pancration (this fight is similar to kickbox and Muay Thai sports when you have to stand) and Kato pancration (similar to wrestling when the fight has to continue on the ground). While the first is used in training, the other is a method currently used in real events. Combined techniques from two different sports such as ancient boxing and wrestling help to use all the powers. The combination of techniques in pancration from two different martial sports gives this sport more space and freedom than wrestling or boxing alone, making it strong, rich and interesting, but for the same reason the risks such as injury, loss of consciousness and even death are more can be thought to be. Ancient boxing and wrestling are more violent than today’s boxing and wrestling, and the techniques of these two can be seen in pancration, an ancient martial art, as well as strokes from different eastern sports such as karate. Keywords: Martial Art, Ancient Sport, Pancreas, Technique in Ancient Greek Martial Sports. LOGIN Pancreas, or pancreas, is a mixture of boxing, wrestling and judo sports, scientifically defined as combat without weapons (Masterson, 1976, 197). Pancration, which is a mixture of boxing, wrestling and subtracted techniques of the two, has been called “combat sports” in Greek history (Milavic, 2001, 180). Many perspectives can be found regarding the reason for the birth of pancration, its place of birth, its separation into martial arts and martial sports, its transition from martial art to martial sport and sportive arrangements (Charalampos et al., 2014, 92). Pancration is a mixed fight using some of Helen boxing and Ancient wrestling techniques (Stenious, M. 2013, 42). The fact that pancration is based on “all power” must be related to the use of various techniques from all fights such as punch, kick, and grapple. Pancration, which is a combination of wrestling and boxing techniques, is also referred to as “Pammachion” in the sources. Those who practice pancreas (pancreatic sports) are called pancratists (or pancratiast, pancration athletes) (Nomikos, 2015, 82). It is stated that pancration sport is a complex form called “pammachoi”, where pancratiastes are allowed free hand and foot movements with the wrestling event (Semaan, 2008, par.9; Nomikos, 2015, 82). sources define “pammachoi”, meaning the person who triumphs in pancration, as the person who has all the power or the person in force. This definition may also evoke implications such as the person who now possesses all power (in effect, now valid), who is acknowledged by all that he has all power, who dominates all, has authority, and has authority over someone else. Pancration was called “pammachon” in ancient sources, which means “total war”. The Greeks called Jupiter “Pankratis”, whom they considered the king, the most powerful man and god. Since pancration was called “pammahon” (from the greek pan = all and mahi = war) in ancient sources, “From the greek pan” here can be translated as all Greek, all Greek. According to this, pancratist can mean “the person who is superior among all Greeks”, “the best”, “the one who has proven his superiority”, “the one who has sanction power over the other” (Charalampos et al., 2014, 92). There is controversy that there are no rules and techniques in the ancient sports pancreas. In this study, the rules and techniques of ancient sports pancreas will be tried to be determined. The First Core of Mixed Martial Arts: Ancient Sports Pancreas (Pancreas) Zendo International Martial Arts / Volume:2 Issue:01 04 December 2020 www.zen-do.net / [email protected] / [email protected] RESULT Pancration is an Ancient Greek sport of unknown origin. It is thought to date back to 2 or 3 thousand years before Christ. Pancration emerged for different purposes such as religious rituals, games and entertainment, the Olympics, providing a ceasefire and fighting. Considering the way out of pancration, it can be thought that both fighting and stopping the war, by drawing the public’s attention to the Olympic games, limiting the anger, violence and the desire to attack within them from a wide area such as war toa narrow area such as the Olympics. It symbolizes strength and endurance. Pancration means full dominance over the opponent in terms of full power, full victory, and full control. This fight results in a submission in which the opponent unconditionally obeys the other. The meaning of the ancient period Pancration as a word suggests that the fighter, who has a superior bodily power and who wants to prove this, uses all his power, energy and skill to defeat the opponent, given the techniques used in pancration and the violence, the purposes and the damage of the opponents in this fight. Combined techniques taken from two different sports such as ancient boxing and wrestling help the use of all strengths and the demonstration of all power. The combination of techniques in pancration from two different combat sports gives this sport more range of motion and freedom, making it powerful, rich and interesting, compared to wrestling or boxing alone, but for the same reason it may be considered that the risks of injury, loss of consciousness and even death are greater. . Ancient boxing and wrestling are more violent than today, and in addition to the techniques of these two, hits from different eastern sports such as karate can be seen in pancration, an ancient martial art. The mixed form created by the wrestling and boxing techniques in pancration has expanded by taking techniques from other martial sports. This creates a common link between pancration and mixed martial arts. One reason for the emergence of mixed martial arts is that Bruce Lee thinks that the fighter should create his own style and not depend on a fixed style. Pancratists, called pancratists or pancrat, are subjected to rigorous and difficult training. But some features are based on the same foundation as today, such as warming up, studying the techniques of the main sport, and cooling (recovery). However, athletes have a strong condition as they have done many hard jobs in daily life from the difficult conditions of the Ancient Greek period. Coaches therefore tried to train them more technically. Zendo International Martial Arts / Volume:2 Issue:01 04 December 2020 www.zen-do.net / [email protected] / [email protected]
